Jose Zepeda has officially received the belt confirming his status as the WBC silver light welterweight champion of the world.
The award ceremony took place at a press conference at the Zanfer office. The belt was presented to Zepeda by WBC President Mauricio Suleiman personally. The champion thanked him and said that he now feels special and hopes to turn silver into gold soon. Zepeda also shared his plans, mentioning WBA, WBO champion Jose Ramirez:
“This victory has attracted the attention of the whole world to us and I hope that Jose Carlos Ramirez, whom I have already met, and whom I think I have won … So, let’s meet face to face. I am already an official challenger.”
As a career development option, Zepeda also speculated that he could move to lightweight to take on the winner of the Lomachenko-Lopez match.
In turn, the WBC president called Zepeda “an example of the spirit of the Mexican warrior and urged him not to stop there:
“It is a pleasure and a real pride for the WBC to give belts to such boxers. Zepeda is a great silver world champion and we give him the belt with all honor and merit. “
