This match was supposed to take place back in July, but the injury received by Ivan Baranchik (20-1 13 KOs) in training confused all the plans of Jose Zepeda (32-2 25 KOs). Fortunately, both fighters sincerely desired this meeting, which will take place on October 3 in Las Vegas, NV, no matter what.
About the upcoming fight Zepeda says:
“I want to say that I am ready for anything and I think that this fight is necessary for both of us. It is important for us to show that we both deserve the right to the title. I am sure that the spectacle will be exciting.”
The winner of Saturday’s match will be in a privileged position in a possible meeting with the WBC champion, WBO Jose Ramirez (26-0 17 KOs). However, this opportunity applies to all participants in the qualifying tournament. At the same time, Josh Taylor remains the undisputed leader for the right to fight Ramirez (2nd position in the BoxRec rating). Nevertheless, Zepeda is confident that the fight with Baranchik will finally clarify who is the main contender for the title:
“I don’t think that when the fight is over, anyone will doubt that I am the first in line for the belt.”
