WBO approves fight between Jamel Herring and Carl Frampton, winner will go to Stevenson

The World Boxing Organization (WBO) decided on the next fight of the champion in the second featherweight (up to 59 kg), American Jamel Herring (22-2-0, 10 KO).

Herring has the right to carry out a voluntary defense of the title against the British ex-champion in two weights Carl Frampton (28-2-0, 16 KO), but the winner must, within 90 days, come together with the mandatory challenger and the former champion in a lower category, American Shakur Stevenson ( 14-0-0, 8 KO).

It is likely that the winner of this fight will leave the belt – 34-year-old Herring is seriously considering retirement, as is 33-year-old Frampton. If Stevenson has to fight for the vacant belt, then he will do it against any available fighter with the highest position in the rankings.

Recall that the second number at the moment is the undefeated Mexican Oscar Valdes (28-0-0, 22 KO), the third is the Namibian avenue Jeremiah Catatilla (19-1-0, 15 KO).
