USS Nimitz leaves the Middle East and returns to the United States

The US aircraft carrier Nimitz is returning home after spending nearly ten months abroad amid tensions with Iran, the Pentagon confirmed.

The only Navy aircraft carrier operating in the Middle East, Nimitz left the Arabian Sea and the Fifth Fleet after more than 270 days of deployment.

The ship is currently in the Indo-Pacific region on its way back to the United States, said senior Pentagon spokesman John Kirby.

“We do not take such decisions lightly, and there are many factors to consider, especially when it comes to the strike group that was at sea and was deployed for so long, 10 months, so the wear of the ship itself and the impact on sailors must be taken into account,” Kirby said.

“[Министр обороны Ллойд Остин] believes that we have a powerful presence in the Middle East. He believes that this decision is in the national interest, ”the Pentagon spokesman added.
