The United States welcomes the recent announcement by the Latvian government of recognizing the entire Hezbollah movement as a terrorist organization, the State Department’s press service said Monday. Latvia supports US sanctions related to Hezbollah and has expressed its readiness to impose travel bans for persons associated with the organization.
According to the statement, the actions announced by the countries of Europe, Latin America and other regions against the terrorist organization serve as a convincing signal to Hezbollah and its supporters in Iran, demonstrating that a “new day” is coming when Hezbollah militants can no longer act from European soil, and the European Union, following a number of European governments, will close the loopholes created by the “false distinction” between Hezbollah’s military and political wings.
“The fact is that Hezbollah is a terrorist organization in its entirety. The United States continues to urge all countries to take whatever measures they can to prevent the organization’s agents and recruiters and funding parties from operating on their territory, ”the State Department said.
