WASHINGTON – The administration of President Donald Trump and President-elect Joe Biden have expressed dismay at the massive invasion of computer systems that Russia is suspected of committing.
The cyber division of the Department of Homeland Security said the hacking “poses a serious threat to the federal and state governments, municipalities, tribal and territorial entities, as well as to critical infrastructure and other private sector organizations.”
It became known on Thursday that the Ministry of Energy and Microsoft were among the victims of the hack. Earlier it was reported that the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Commerce were attacked.
News of the attack first surfaced over the weekend.
The Cyber and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) said the attacks infiltrated “highly sophisticated and non-standard” malware into computer networks.
The Energy Department said the attack only affected its business network.
