Taras Shelestyuk: “Lopez still managed to get Lomachenko in the head”

Ukrainian welterweight Taras Shelestyuk analyzed the fight for the title of absolute world champion between Vasily Lomachenko and Teofimo Lopez.

“In this fight, Lopez, showing competent and mature boxing, achieved a well-deserved victory. Let’s start with the fact that Lopez still managed to get into Lomachenko’s head, despite the fact that psychologists are working with Vasya and his dad is trying to set him up. But Lopez’s statements affected, it was evident that they had hurt Vasya.

In this fight, Lomachenko had to push from the first round, throw in combinations. He took four rounds from the eighth to the eleventh, but I think that he did not manage to finalize, finish off the opponent, although it seemed that Vasya was about to turn the tide of the fight and snatch victory. Lopez missed a lot of punches. If we take a specific fight, at 23, Teofimo looked much more confident and tougher. He knew what to do directly in the ring.

Even when Vasya started throwing his combinations, Lopez did not shake himself, showed mature boxing and a stable psyche, which is inherent in an experienced fighter. Lomachenko practically didn’t respond to this. He fussed a lot. It was clear that from the first rounds he wanted to charge for one hit, but then he realized that he could not knock out Lopez like that, “Taras Shelestyuk said in a video posted on his YouTube channel.
