Dozens of U.S. National Guard troops stationed in Washington during Joe Biden’s inauguration events have been diagnosed with the coronavirus. According to the American media, citing a source in government agencies, the coronavirus was detected in about 150-200 National Guardsmen.
Recall that units of the National Guard were brought into Washington after the Capitol was attacked by supporters of former President Donald Trump.
The number of people infected with the coronavirus could rise as testing continues, the source said. The source noted that about 25 thousand servicemen were stationed in the city to maintain order.
The command of the US National Guard did not comment on the situation. It is expected that about 15 thousand National Guardsmen will leave Washington in the coming week.
