Rakuten BIG: a smartphone with a sub-screen camera, IP68 protection and a Snapdragon 765G chip for $ 660


In early September, ZTE announced in China the world’s first smartphone with a sub-screen camera Axon 20 5G, and now a similar device has been shown by the Japanese manufacturer Rakuten (owner of the Viber messenger).

What is known

The smartphone is called Rakuten BIG and it has a giant 6.92-inch OLED display with a resolution 2460×1080 pixels and a 32 megapixel camera built under the selfie screen. The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor paired with a 5G modem, 6 GB of RAM and a 128 GB drive, which can be expanded with a microSD card.

The main camera is new with four modules. The main sensor is 64 Mp and three additional ones are 8 Mp + 2 Mp + 2 Mp. A 4000 mAh battery is responsible for the autonomy of the device. The Rakuten BIG also features IP68 water protection, an under-screen scanner, e-SIM, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and a USB-C charging port. The device is supplied with the Android 10 operating system.

Price and when to wait

Rakuten BIG is already on sale in Japan for $ 660. It is unknown whether the device will appear in other countries.
