The policy of US President Donald Trump is for the whole of Europe to expand opportunities for diversifying energy sources, and “not depend on Russia and Gazprom,” said Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
“It’s not good, it’s unsafe, it creates risks, and frankly, in this case people pay more to heat their homes,” Pompeo told the Athens News Agency.
According to him, the United States not only declares its rejection of Nord Stream 2, but is also working to expand its capabilities to deliver liquefied natural gas to the region and increase the availability of other energy sources such as oil and oil products.
“We hope this work will continue, we count on it,” said the head of American diplomacy. “American involvement here is truly unique, truly exclusive, and I think it will mean really good things: more diversification of energy sources, cheaper energy, and working with trusted partners like US companies.”
