Poll: Americans’ opinions on impeachment are divided

The day after the House of Representatives impeached President Donald Trump, a new NBC News poll showed that American voters were divided on the issue, with most Republicans strongly supporting the president.

Nationwide, 50 percent of voters believe Trump should be impeached and removed from office, while 48 percent oppose.

At the same time, among Democrats, 89 percent of respondents are in favor of impeachment and removal of Trump, and among Republicans – only 8 percent.

Opinions of independent voters were divided almost equally: 45 percent in favor and 53 percent against.

The House of Representatives voted to impeach on Wednesday, but the Senate will not begin considering the matter until January 19, the day before Trump’s term expires.

This means that the proceedings will not be completed while he is in office.
