House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Treasury Secretary Stephen Mnuchin on Monday discussed a budget bill designed to prevent a government shutdown and a new round of economic aid to tackle the fallout from the coronavirus pandemic.
House Representative Speaker Drew Hammill tweeted that Pelosi reiterated Democrats’ concerns about protecting businesses that have been negligent about the coronavirus, causing customers and employees to become infected. Nancy Pelosi told Mnuchin that the remaining outstanding issues in the budget bill could be easily resolved. The phone call, according to Drew Hammill, lasted 22 minutes.
“Recognizing the need to come to a final agreement on both issues quickly and together this week, the House Speaker and the Treasury Secretary discussed the urgency of the committees to finalize their work,” Hammill said.
