The US National Security Agency warns that “state-sponsored” Russian hackers are actively exploiting software vulnerabilities in several products developed by VMware.
The NSA recommends that organizations apply the program adjustments provided by the company on Saturday “as soon as possible”.
According to the NSA warning, if successfully exploited, the vulnerability would allow a hacker to remotely execute operating system commands on an infected device, which could lead to data theft or corruption.
The VMware alert clarifies that hackers will first need to gain access to a user account using a stolen password to fully exploit the vulnerability.
The Russian government has consistently denied any involvement in malicious cyber activity.
