In the original 2013 film, the actor played the lead role.
In a recent interview with Collider, 40-year-old Charlie Hunnam explained why he decided not to star in the sequel to Pacific Rim after starring in the first movie of 2013. As you know, the original film, which was a success, was directed by Guillermo del Toro, who did not work on the sequel. While he was announced in the project, Hunnam was ready to act there.

However, work on the sequel dragged on – the sequel was released only in 2018. By the time production began, Charlie was already filming on a different set.
“Of course, when Guillermo talked about it, then – yes, definitely, I was part of the conversation. I think that his vision included me. By the time we decided that they were going to shoot with another director, I was already busy, ”said the artist.
As it turned out, he was not upset about the mismatch of the schedules.
“I didn’t really regret it. In fact, I have not seen the continuation of the tape, so I never gave myself the opportunity to seriously think about whether I regret this decision, ”added Hunnam.
It should be noted that in recent years Charlie’s career has been striving upward: he starred in such successful films as “Triple Border”, “The True Story of the Kelly Gang” and “Gentlemen.”
