After the violence on Capitol Hill in Washington, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo dispatched 1,000 New York National Guard troops to the US capital.

They will stay in Washington for up to two weeks “to help and facilitate the peaceful transfer of presidential power,” Cuomo said.

He added that “New York stands ready to help ensure that the will of the American people is fulfilled – in a safe and decisive manner.”
