Former WBA and IBF World Heavyweight Champion Murat Gassiev (26-1, KO 19) will play his next fight on October 31 in Sochi against former WBC heavyweight title challenger Kevin Johnson (35-17-1 , KO 19), who contested the belt of the world champion in 2009 with Vitali Klitschko.
“Murat Gassiev’s long-awaited debut in the heavyweight division is scheduled for October 31 in Sochi in a duel with Kevin Johnson,” the website of the Russian Boxing Federation quotes Kremlin as saying. “In my opinion, Murat will benefit from a fight against such an opponent after a long downtime. Kevin Johnson is an unpredictable boxer who has fought with very famous opponents. I wish Murat a good preparation. And we, in turn, are negotiating with his promoters.”
Recall that Gassiev spent his last performance in the summer of 2018, losing in the final of the WBSS tournament to Alexander Usik. After that, the Russian boxer, who underwent shoulder surgery, decided to rise to the heavyweight division, but Gassiev’s debut was constantly postponed for various reasons.
