Metropolitan Opera canceled all season due to coronavirus

The New York Metropolitan Opera announced a “painful” decision to completely cancel the 2020-2021 season due to the continuation of the coronavirus epidemic.

The theater said its decision was based on the recommendations of the health authorities and was explained by the insecurity of resuming rehearsals and performances until “widespread use of the vaccine, the formation of herd immunity, and until the wearing of masks and social distancing are no longer medical requirements.”

“Health officials said this is likely to happen five to six months after the vaccine is used,” the organization said.

Metropolitan Opera general manager Peter Gelb told AFP that the respected theater expects to lose at least $ 154 million in revenues, despite cost cuts.
