Mauricio Suleiman: “If Lopez defeats Lomachenko, he will be recognized as the WBC franchise champion”

World Boxing Council (WBC) President Mauricio Suleiman said that in case of victory over WBA, WBO and WBC Franchise lightweight champion Vasily Lomachenko, IBF champion Teofimo Lopez will be recognized as franchise champion.

Initially, the WBC insisted that boxers would receive a franchise title for meritorious service so that they could not be lost in battle. However, Suleiman claims that the Council revised this rule ahead of the Lomachenko-Lopez fight.

“This is an amazing unification for the title of undisputed king of lightweight. If Teofimo Lopez defeats Lomachenko, he will be declared the WBC franchise champion. The council voted in favor of this decision. If he wins, Lopez will become the dominant division champion.

Whoever wins, he will no doubt be the best lightweight in the world. We are very excited. We support this great fight. I spoke with both fighters, and they are looking forward to this wonderful event, “- said Mauricio Suleiman in an interview with Boxing Social YouTube channel.
