Newly minted IBF First Heavyweight Champion and WBSS Season 2 winner Mairis Briedis discussed his successful return to the World Boxing Super Series tournament and mentioned a possible move to the heavyweight division.
Recall that last weekend, Briedis won by a majority vote over Cuban Yunier Dorticos, thereby becoming the owner of the coveted Mohammed Ali Cup.
“I feel amazing after winning the Mohammed Ali Trophy, it’s like a dream,” Briedis said. “I, my team and my whole family have been waiting for this trophy for a very long time. Thank God that we did it, and I am very happy about it.
After the defeat for Usik, not the best times came for me. The tendril turned out to be the best that night, and that is what it is. But, if you look back, you can see that a lot has changed around me and my team. And from that fight everything changed only for the better. I don’t even know in what direction my career would have gone if I had been given the victory that night.
I am considering moving to the heavyweight division, “Briedis added.” But right now I will take a little rest before making any decisions. “
