In the middle of last October, there were rumors that Carl Pei, co-founder of OnePlus (a consumer electronics manufacturer based in Shenzhen, China – ed. TechCult.ru), had left the company to start his own private business. And now the details from Pei himself have become known.
It turned out that he was launching a new tech company headquartered in London called … Nothing. The startup has already raised $ 7 million in venture capital investments from major tech players, including iPod inventor Tony Fadell, Reddit platform director Steve Huffman, and Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin.
So what is known about what the Nothing company will produce? You won’t believe – nothing. The startup idea is kept secret, and Karl Pei himself mysteriously states: “Nothing interesting has happened in the world of technology for a long time. It’s time to bring something new to it. ”
Karl argues that Nothing’s mission is to remove barriers between technology and people in order to create a unified digital space of the future. The company plans to release its first product, which will belong to the class of smart devices, sometime in the first half of 2021. But we know what he will be like and what tasks to solve … you guessed it – nothing. At least, the intrigue’s denouement is not long to wait.
