The baby was named after Joaquin’s deceased brother.
35-year-old Rooney Mara and 45-year-old Joaquin Phoenix became parents for the first time, the couple had a son. The baby was named River after his brother Joaquin, who died of a drug overdose in 1993 at the age of 23.
Rumors that the couple had a baby appeared a few days ago when Rooney was seen with a flat stomach. And recently the news was confirmed by the Russian director Viktor Kosakovsky, who worked with Phoenix on the film “Gunda” – the actor acted as the executive producer of the film. Victor explained why Joaquin was not at the Zurich Film Festival:

Rooney’s pregnancy became known in May, although she and Joaquin tried to hide this fact. Nevertheless, during quarantine, Mara very rarely left the house and escaped the attention of the paparazzi. The family is also in no hurry to share details about the birth of a child.
Rooney and Joaquin have been in a relationship since 2016. They met on the set of the film “She”, in which they played the main roles. In 2019, the couple got engaged. Sources from the entourage of the stars said that they were going to legitimize the relationship, but perhaps this year this was prevented by a pandemic.
