In the US, the number of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 reaches 40,000

In the United States, the number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients has reached 40,000 for the first time since August, as the country is grappling with a new surge in infections, especially in the Midwest, Reuters reported.

Over the past four weeks, the number of patients with coronavirus in hospitals has increased by 36 percent, and hospitals in the Midwest are setting new records every day.

Sixteen states reported record daily hospitalizations this month, including Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

The US reported 69,478 new cases last Friday, the highest daily rate since July 24 and the fifth highest since the pandemic began.
