Thousands of people are leaving the Atlantic coast of Nicaragua in connection with the intensifying hurricane “Eta”, which is approaching Central America.
The US National Hurricane Observation Center said Eta is a Category 4 hazardous storm, with wind speeds exceeding 248 kilometers per hour.
A hurricane warning has been issued for the area from the Honduras-Nicaragua border to Sandy Bay Sirpi.
Forecasters warn of floods and landslides, especially in central and northern Nicaragua and most of Honduras.
Heavy rains are expected in eastern Guatemala, southern Belize and Jamaica.
Eta is the eighth Atlantic storm of the season, ending November 30th.
