The Russian-linked hackers behind the massive hacking of US corporate and government systems were able to gain access to Microsoft’s internal systems and view internal source code used to create software products, the company said.
Microsoft had previously confirmed that it had downloaded hacker-modified malware from SolarWinds.
Now, for the first time, information has surfaced indicating that hackers have gained access to Microsoft’s internal systems.
“We have identified suspicious activity involving a small number of internal accounts and, upon verification, found that one account was used to view source code across multiple source code repositories,” Microsoft said in a statement.
According to the company, the compromised account could only view the source code, but not make changes to it.
