Regular WBA lightweight champion Jervonta Davis is not afraid of contracting COVID19 to fight fans in the stands.
Davis (23-0) will face Leo Santa Cruz (37-1-1) in the main event on October 31 Showtime Pay-Per-View from Alamodome to San Antonio. For Davis, this opponent will be the most serious in his track record.
Several thousand fans are expected to watch the fight. Davis, 25, said he is not afraid to fight in front of so many fans:
“I speak only for myself – I even agree to get infected to please the viewers,” the fighter said in an interview with TMZ Sports. If I realize that I got sick during the fight, I will not be particularly worried, knowing that it happened for a reason. “
Davis said he understands the risks, but the fight in front of the fans is worth it. In addition, the athlete expressed his hope for a meeting in the near future with another undefeated fighter – Ryan Garcia, who will fight Luke Campbell in December for the vacant WBC interim title:
“Ryan and I could definitely be next if there is mutual interest in this fight.”
