Facebook Supervisory Board to assess decision to block Trump accounts

Facebook’s independent oversight board said it accepted the company’s request for an assessment of its decision to block the accounts of former US President Donald Trump.

The company blocked Trump’s access to his Facebook and Instagram accounts following the January 6 violence in the Congress building, where Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election was officially certified.

In making the decision, the company said the lockdown will remain in place at least until Trump’s term ends on January 20, and possibly indefinitely.

The report says that a five-member committee of the council will consider this issue in the coming days and report its findings to the full council.
