Director of National Intelligence Names China Top Threat to Freedom and Democracy

National Intelligence Director John Ratcliffe has named China as the main threat to freedom and democracy since World War II.

“Beijing is preparing for an indefinite confrontation with the United States,” Ratcliffe wrote in an article for the Wall Street Journal. “Washington should also be prepared.”

Ratcliffe, who took office in May this year, has repeatedly named China as one of his top intelligence priorities.

“The intelligence is clear,” writes Ratcliffe. “Beijing wants to dominate the US and the rest of the planet economically, militarily and technologically.”

“His desire for power has no moral or ethical boundaries,” he adds. “China is even testing People’s Liberation Army soldiers in the hopes of creating biologically enhanced fighters.”
