The IBF WBA World Second Middleweight Champion Carl Froch has said that Derek Chisora will determine at Wembley on October 31 “if Usyk can count on anything in the heavyweight division.”
Froch himself expects the former undisputed heavyweight champion Usyk (17-0, 13 KOs) to defeat Chisora (32-9, 23 KOs), but doubts whether the 33-year-old boxer will have enough strength and experience for such a difficult task.
Just over a year ago, in his debut in the heavyweight division, Alexander defeated 38-year-old Chazz Witherspoon (38-4) by knockout in the 7th round, but this victory left more questions than answers.
In an interview with Sporting Radio, Karl Froch said:
“We cannot say anything about Usyk’s prospects in the heavyweight division, because he is here recently. What will come of this, we will know only when he comes out against a real heavyweight.”
According to Froch, Matchroom did the right thing when he decided to test Usyk against Chisora. “And if Usyk wins on Oct. 31, Froch says, he can reasonably qualify for a duel with the winner of the Joshua-Fury pair in 2021 and 2022.
