California Governor Gavin Newsom has announced a curfew that will operate across much of the state to combat the spread of the coronavirus.
California Department of Health decree prohibits being outside the home for no good reason from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am in the “purple zone” counties, which have the most stringent quarantine measures.
The restriction will take effect on Saturday and will be valid until December 21, but may be extended.
“The virus is spreading at a rate we haven’t seen since the beginning of this pandemic, and the next few days and weeks will be critical to ending this surge. We are sounding the alarm, “Newsom said in a statement.
Since last Thursday, the state has recorded more than 10,000 new infections per day four times.
