Top Rank head promoter Bob Arum admitted in an interview with BoxingScene.com that he can’t wait to see the fight between WBC featherweight title holder Miguel Berchelt (38-1-0, 34 KOs) and undefeated ex-126-pound champion Oscar Valdez (28-0, 22 KOs).
Despite the fact that the fight itself has not yet been officially announced, everything goes to the fact that the confrontation between the two Mexicans will lead the upcoming boxing event, scheduled for December 12th under the arches of the MGM Grand arena in Las Vegas.
“I have always noted that Valdes is very similar to (Eric) Morales,” Arum said. “Berchelt has heavier hands and also rolls great fights. He, like (Emanuel) Navarrete, is just a little more trained. How can you miss this fight?”
This is the only fight that, in my opinion, can compete for the status of “Fight of the Year” with the fight between Zepeda and Baranchik. I don’t even know what other fight could be better than this one. And given the Barrera-Morales trilogy, if Berchelt and Valdez come up with something similar to one of those fights, he will definitely compete for the Fight of the Year title.
