US President-elect Joe Biden’s foreign policy team has pledged to work with partners around the world to address pressing issues ranging from the retreat of democracy to growing rivalries with China, Russia and other authoritarian states.
On Tuesday, Anthony Blinken, who was proposed by Biden for the post of secretary of state, will testify before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
Blinken will tell lawmakers that the US “will be able to win the competition with China.”
“We are able to revitalize our core alliances that multiply our influence around the world. Together we can better counter threats from Russia, Iran and North Korea, as well as defend democracy and human rights, ”says the prepared text of Blinken’s testimony.
Blinken served as deputy secretary of state in the Barack Obama administration.
