Joe Biden spent his first weekend as president at Camp David, the historic suburban home of American leaders.
It has been used by every US president since Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who first came there in 1943 and used the residence as a private hideaway.
Camp David has also been the site of important diplomatic negotiations and political discussions.
The relaxed atmosphere of the residence is said to foster the relationships that are so important to diplomacy.
US presidents made additions to the residence, adjusting it to their tastes. Over time, a heated pool and basketball court appeared there.
During his visit, Biden played with one of his granddaughters.
