President Joe Biden on Wednesday sent an unofficial delegation of former US officials to Taiwan in support of a democratic island facing increasingly hostile Chinese actions.
Taipei said ex-Senator Christopher Dodd and former Undersecretaries of State Richard Armitage and James Steinberg will land in the Taiwan capital on Wednesday.
“This visit will once again demonstrate the strong relationship between Taiwan and the United States,” said Xavier Chang, a spokesman for the President’s Office. “They are as strong as a rock.”
Taiwan’s 23 million people live under the constant threat of invasion by Beijing, which claims the island as its territory.
