US President Joe Biden and his wife Jill on Tuesday night commemorated Brian Siknik, a Capitol police officer who died defending the Capitol from a crowd of Trump supporters who stormed the building in January.
Earlier, the urn with the ashes of Siknik was delivered to the Capitol.
Dozens of Capitol police officers stood at attention as she was taken up the steps and set up in the rotunda to say goodbye.
The police were given the opportunity to take part in the night farewell.
The leaders of the Congress took part in the solemn ceremony of welcoming the ballot box.
Lawmakers will pay tribute to Sicnicus at a ceremony Wednesday morning, after which his ashes will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
