Outgoing Attorney General William Barr said the massive hacker attack on US federal agencies “definitely looks” like Russia’s work.
This statement contradicts the words of President Donald Trump.
By pointing to Russia as the likely perpetrator of the cyberattack, Barr sided with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and other national security officials, but came into conflict with the president.
Barr announced this during an impromptu press conference just two days before his scheduled departure from office.
After days of silence over the massive hacking of government and private sector computer networks, Trump downplayed the attack in a couple of tweets posted over the weekend. He suggested that China, not Russia, was responsible for the attack.
“Cyber hacking is much more significant in fake news than in reality,” Trump wrote. – I received full information and everything is under control. Russia, Russia, Russia – this is what everyone starts to sing about when something happens, because the pseudo-mainstream media, mainly for financial reasons, are afraid to discuss the possibility that it could be China (and it could be) ” …
