Former world light welterweight champion Ivan Baranchik (20-1 13 KOs) is now focused on one thing – on October 3 he will face a difficult fight with Jose Zepeda (32-2 25 KOs). And if he succeeds, he expects to meet with the champion (WBC, WBO) Jose Ramirez (26-0 17 KOs).
The year was not easy for him, but Ivan treats the situation with humor:
“I had a unique opportunity to train for 10 months. In April, the fight was canceled due to an epidemic, in July, due to a minor accident, but now I am ready and no one will stop me.”
“Minor Accident” is about a broken rib during sparring, because of which the fight with Zepeda had to be postponed. Baranchik treats his rival, who has suffered only one defeat from Terry Flanagan (2015) over the past 5 years, with respect, but without fear. And he says about his mood for battle:
“I only focus on this fight. I have to win and then I will face Ramirez or Taylor.”
Which of these two does he prefer?
“It doesn’t matter. To become a champion you have to fight champions. My goal is to be the best in my division.”
