Apple patents next generation Face ID

Office of U.S. Patents has published a new application from Apple related to biometric user authentication system.

What changed

New technology can be used in the next version of the Face ID system. Now the face recognition system is far from perfect because the glasses and masks can interfere with authentication.

The updated system, patented by Apple, uses a face heatmap to based on which and recognition occurs. In theory, it is more secure and will be able to recognize the owner in mask, which is especially important in time of a pandemic.

One has only to hope that the updated Face ID will appear already in this year in the line of smartphones iPhone 12S (or iPhone 13, the exact name is still unknown).
