The Biden administration sees the extension of the US-Russian START Treaty this week as the start of engagement on strategic issues, including multilateral arms control.
This was announced on Thursday by Ambassador Robert Wood, the US Permanent Representative to the UN-sponsored Conference on Disarmament.
They called for the creation of new arms control instruments that “will cover more types of weapons and, ultimately, more countries.”
“The United States will also try to get China involved in nuclear arms control and risk reduction issues. I hope China will join us in this effort, ”Wood said.
