Alexei Papin, a 33-year-old Russian boxer from the World of Boxing promotion company, may hold his next fight before the end of 2020 in order to better prepare for the upcoming rematch with the reigning WBC first heavyweight champion Congolese Ilunga Makabu.
Papin’s coach Andrei Ivichuk said this in an interview with the TASS news agency:
“Aleksey is the official contender for the WBC title. But Makabu can have one fight, after which a fight with him can be considered. If circumstances arise, Aleksey will fight until the end of the year,” Ivichuk said.
Recall that on August 22, Papin in the WBC qualifying match in Kazan managed to stop his compatriot Ruslan Fifer in the sixth round. Thanks to this victory, Alexey Papin became a contender for the world title according to the World Boxing Council and for the first time in his career got into the prestigious rating of The Ring magazine, which allocated him a place in the top ten strongest boxers of the world first heavyweight.
