US Secretary of the Army Ryan McCarthy has announced the dismissal and suspension of 14 commanders and supervisors following a sexual harassment, suicide and murder investigation at Fort Hood military base in Keeneen, Texas.
An investigation was launched following the killing of specialist Vanessa Guillen in Fort Hood earlier this year.
McCarthy also released the results of an independent review he commissioned in July to assess problems in Fort Hood, focusing on reports of discrimination, harassment and assault.
“I came to the conclusion that the problems at Fort Hood are directly related to ineffective leadership,” McCarthy said.
“I am deeply disappointed that the leaders failed to create an atmosphere in which all military personnel are treated with dignity and respect and that would strengthen the commitment to appropriately respond to and prevent allegations of sexual harassment and sexual aggression,” he added.
